The Secret to Making Money.

What if you had a license to print money? Imagine creating a campaign for a new product or service and waking up the next day with a few more zeros in your bank account. If the title had your curiosity, now I have your attention.

Unfortunately, the human condition has proven time and time again we prefer taking something simple and ruin it by making it incredibly complex. Simple doesn’t sell, apparently. Vain money moguls and business gurus crave novelty. So, instead of keeping it simple, stupid, convoluted courses and live events are created with the illusion to “help you make more money.” In reality, most of these efforts do more for their wallets, not yours. Not only does this leave you further in the hole than when you started, but it can turn yourself against you. Doubt creeps in, anxiety rises, and stress strangles you.

If you have a great product or service, then you deserve to make more money.

I’m not a millionaire. I don’t even make six-figures. I am not what most consider to be “successful.” I live in a condo disguised as a loft. I drive a Ford Edge. But, I most certainly have a license to print money. This ability allows me to spend most of my days like this:

  • Rise between 5 and 6 AM.
  • Have an hour at least to enjoy my morning before “work”.
  • Write from 7 to 9 AM.
  • Train from 9:30 – 11:30 AM.
  • Make calls (if I have them) from Noon – 2 PM.
  • 60-min. meditation.
  • Read.
  • Make dinner.

The secret to making money is there is no secret. I’m not even sure why we’re still talking about this? If you’re at a fork in the road with your finances, good. Because you’ve only got two choices when it comes to making more money:

  1. Help people make money.
  2. Help people save money.

Whenever my bank account needs a boost, a simple brainstorm session leaves me with a myriad of “money moves” as Cardi B says. I’m here to tell you, this is easier than you think. The industry you’re in is irrelevant. If your product or service can help your customer accomplish one of the two options above, then you’re in business – literally.

You own a private training facility? Excellent! If you’re working with general population, then your sales pitch may involve saving your customer money by keeping their health insurance rates lower. Only train athletes? Even better. I worked with a young lady for three-years whilst in high school. Her parents spent ten-thousand dollars on her training over the years. “But Hunter, I thought you said something about saving customers’ money?” There’s a postscript: she earned a full-ride to Indiana. Out-of-state tuition is just beneath $36k per year. I’d say her parents saved a ton of money.

What about the other side of the coin, so to speak? How does your product or service help those you serve make money? Being a student of marketing, the easy answer is to help businesses, entrepreneurs and coaches alike build a sales-funnel that works without them. If you don’t fancy yourself a marketer, then your product or service gives your customers, (in some way, shape, or form) the capacity to:

  • Get more work done due to having more energy and/or more time.
  • Perform at a world-class level to “secure the bag” as the kids say.
  • Look and feel their best, giving them the confidence to take more chances and leave their comfort-zones.

Still unsure where to begin? You are an expert in something. You possess tools others don’t. Your walk through life is unique; surely you’ve learned a thing or two because you’ve done a thing or two. I’d ask you to consider taking inventory of your life. Write down everything, and I mean everything considered a “task.” Copy writing. Online coaching. Baking. If you can do it, write it down. From here, put each task into one of four categories:

  1. Incompetent.
  2. Competent.
  3. Excellent.
  4. Unique Ability.

There won’t be a ton of variance for you and I in categories 1 through 3. However, the task(s) labeled as your “Unique Ability” should be something few – if any – do better than you. If you’re struggling to uncover your Unique Ability, good! This means it comes so naturally, you’re not even aware how great you are! However, what you don’t know could be a huge opportunity lost. That task you scoff at because the story you’re telling yourself is “everyone knows how to do that” might just be your big break.

Once you’ve discovered your Unique Ability, then it is simply a matter of crafting the narrative around the offer. Does ____ help people make or save money? Execution – especially when it comes to making money – has two best friends; their names are simplicity and transparency. Articulate how you will help your customers finances, and yours will improve as well. The secret to making more money is there is no secret. And since you too have a license to print money, I can’t wait to see what you create.
